Two kilometers… one kilometer… eight hundred meters… five hundred meters…
“Group Leader Li! We’ve reached the danger zone, yet there’s no sign of the Bloodkin. Should we proceed?”
Group Leader Li’s command echoed through the comms:
[Proceed.]
“R-received…”
The man, clad in a protective suit, shivered visibly. He cast a hopeful glance at the young woman beside him, his voice trembling, “You see…”
“Well, let’s keep going then.” Liu Yu stretched languidly, speaking with an air of utter indifference. Her ample curves, impossible to conceal, swayed with her movements, yet they failed to capture even a sliver of the man’s attention.
Compared to the ‘tin can’ beside her—the man in his bulky suit—Liu Yu’s attire was remarkably scant. But as the saying went, the less one wore, the higher their stats, and as the strongest among them, her minimal clothing seemed perfectly justifiable.
“B-but, at this distance, it’s already extremely dangerous. If we go any further and the Bloodkin target us, we’ll never escape.”
“Ha? So, you wretched boy want to be a deserter?”
“N-no, it’s not that. I just think we should stop here…”
“I’ve told you countless times, you’ll be fine with me here. Stop dawdling like a timid woman.”
Already impatient, Liu Yu grabbed the man by his collar, disregarding his struggles and shouts, and swiftly walked towards the building, tossing him down near its base.
“Here, your boss said to install that… whatever-it-is device right here.”
“Y-y-y-y-you…”
The man shakily straightened himself, nearly letting a curse slip. But considering the vast disparity in their strength, he wisely clamped his mouth shut. Instead, he pulled a metallic cylinder from his backpack, aligned it with the designated spot, and plunged it into the ground. He then retrieved a small tablet, tapping and swiping at its screen.
“Why has no one come out to cause trouble, even though we’re right at their doorstep?”
The young woman’s puzzled voice made the man’s hands pause. He nervously scanned his surroundings, only exhaling in relief after confirming there were no enemies in sight.
“Oh, please, my lady, don’t scare me like that. If a Bloodkin truly emerged from here, you might be fine, but I’d be dead for sure.”
An insurmountable chasm had always existed between humans and the Black-blooded. Even Hunters, lauded as super-soldiers, typically faced converted creatures like Vampires in their daily battles. Their combat prowess simply couldn’t compare to that of genuine Black-blooded individuals.
Thus, when news broke that a group of Derivative Species Bloodkin were hidden within the city, it triggered an unprecedented tremor among Dongchuan’s high-ranking officials.
Just a single Elf possessed the power to raze an entire city. To think that Bloodkin, also Black-blooded, had a group concealed within the city—the sheer horror of such a scenario was enough to send shivers down one’s spine.
During the emergency operational meeting convened by The Supervisory Bureau, over half of the attendees advocated for an immediate evacuation of Dongchuan. A portion of the remainder requested support from The Association, while a scant few constituted the hawkish faction.
This contentious debate persisted until Senior Yao Jing presented combat records proving that the Bloodkin were not as powerful as imagined—in fact, they were relatively weak. Only then did everyone unite, forming a讨伐 team.
Of course, the Bloodkin’s weakness was relative to other Derivative Species; against ordinary humans and even Hunters, they still wielded overwhelming dominance.
As a member of the research department, the man’s intimate knowledge of these files was precisely why he acted so timidly during this operation.
Regrettably, his earnest concerns did not reach Liu Yu. Instead, the young woman stomped her foot in irritation, snapping, “How many times do I have to say it? I’ll protect you, you’ll be perfectly safe. If you utter another foolish word, I’ll leave you here.”
Looking at the equipment, which had been jolted askew on the ground, the man could only helplessly agree, hoping to end this life-threatening journey sooner. “Yes, yes, you’ll protect me.” Speaking words he didn’t even believe himself, he crouched down and continued to calibrate the device.

“They really didn’t show up, not a single Bloodkin.”
When Liu Yu returned to the operations room, protecting the researcher who had narrowly escaped death, an expression of disbelief still clung to her face. She couldn’t believe that such an act, akin to wreaking havoc right at their doorstep, hadn’t been detected by the Bloodkin inside. But why… why hadn’t they even shown a shadow?
Tracing back, with The Doctor and Irina both defeated, the Bloodkin gathering together was inherently strange. Was it because their leader was confident enough to take down the entire city, or did they have some other, unspeakable objective? Hmm… it seemed all would be revealed when the battle commenced.
“You’re back.”
Hearing the discussion, Group Leader Li, who had been sitting in front of a computer, stood up. He picked up the protective suit from his left and approached the two, saying, “The next equipment installation site requires my on-site inspection. Little Wang will stay here for now; I’ll go with you.”
And so, Liu Yu was once again dragged back near the skyscraper, accompanying Group Leader Li as he tapped and prodded at various spots. Strangely, the Bloodkin remained completely silent, as if they had truly perished.
Late at night.
After a busy day, everyone gathered in the temporary operations room. The incessant clatter of keyboards became the room’s main melody, as pairs of eyes were fixed intently on the large screen on the wall. The solemn and grave atmosphere was so quiet that even the drop of a pin could be heard clearly. Everyone present knew this was the critical moment for the plan’s success or failure.
[Multi-Spatial Defense System]
This research project, deployed in its first real combat scenario, would significantly impact their subsequent operational directives, whether it succeeded or failed.
Influenced by the serious mood of those around her, even Liu Yu turned off her phone’s external speaker and began to earnestly read a novel.
“It’s a success.”
Group Leader Li’s calm words ignited cheers among the group. Liu Yu curiously leaned on the windowsill; the scene outside had transformed into an endless expanse of pristine white. The tall buildings that should have been nearby had vanished without a trace. So that’s it… was it?
Even Liu Yu now understood the significance of this plan. Using this spatial expansion technology could effectively reduce the destruction caused by combat and could also be used to divide the enemy’s forces. It was indeed a good strategy with multiple benefits.
“…Not only that, but for the upcoming battle, we’ve overlapped a full ten layers of space near the Shenghai Building. The combined area even exceeds the entire land area of Dongchuan…”
Group Leader Li’s grand discourse continued. The success of this project was enough to propel him to a higher position within the research department; another step forward, and it wouldn’t be impossible for him to leave his mark in history.
“Hello, are you… Liu Yu?”
Shrill and raspy, this was not a sound a human could make, yet it carried a familiar sensation.
“Hello~ That’s me.” Liu Yu greeted them openly. Yet, upon seeing this person, she instinctively licked her lips. From the creature in the protective suit, the young woman smelled the scent of delicious food—faint, but unmistakably the aroma of a Vampire, a savory scent that stirred her appetite. ‘Who could it be?’ she wondered.
