“Get out of my way!”
Snow was filled with regret.
He had been so foolishly presumptuous, assuming they were after him or Stella.
It never occurred to him… that anyone with a brain wouldn’t threaten him with murderous intent upon first meeting.
Nor would they attack him when he was fully prepared.
Furthermore, if they were very familiar with the mansion’s layout.
And if they were the same group that attacked in the Fatt Territory…
Then the most likely target would be—
“Damn it, they must be closing in!”
Snow’s face twisted as he spurred his horse wildly towards the southeast.
Rewind to an earlier time.
“Listen, the target is the Fatt family, a butler named Charlton, and a blonde maid… kill them on sight.”
Shortly after confirming that the black-haired boy had left with most of the guards, they approached the Crown Prince’s lonely mansion on the outskirts.
(You never expected this, you dog emperor’s* foolish son… our goal is to destroy what you cherish!)
Even the usually calm Assassin couldn’t help but feel a sense of triumph that the Crown Prince had fallen for their plan.
Their organization had spent countless years trying to eliminate Snow, only to fail every time.
Poisons, assassinations, ambushes… dozens, yet they were always thwarted.
They had launched countless ambushes inside the palace, in the city, and in the wilderness, but he always knew in advance or easily broke through.
Before the last mole within the organization was eliminated, they discovered that Snow’s ruthlessness might be a facade.
If Snow had gone to the countryside to turn the tables on them, then—
Reyn’s selfless act of saving his subordinates and the Fatt family further confirmed this suspicion.
They immediately conceived a bold plan—to destroy a leader, first drive him mad.
Once Reyn lost his reason and couldn’t calmly assess the situation, the things he needed to do would be simple.
Therefore, the organization decided to make Reyn experience another “Curse Disaster”-like event, losing the most important people around him.
And this plan was already more than halfway successful.
No, it should be said, it was 100% successful.
The mansion now only had twelve knights and servants… with such limited combat power, they couldn’t possibly resist them.
However, to ensure the targets were killed and prevent them from escaping through secret passages, they still needed to infiltrate the house as stealthily as possible.
“Leader, there are magical surveillance devices in the yard.”
One of the subordinates said nervously.
It had to be said, the dog emperor’s son was very good at protecting himself.
If there were enough people, coupled with the guards’ patrols, it would be difficult to infiltrate.
But as it was now… they climbed over the wall. The Assassin quickly scaled the wall and rushed in.
Based on previous intelligence and the remaining manpower, he should have thirty seconds… no, only thirty seconds, because it would take time for the subordinates to come in.
There were actually three types of magical devices.
The worst was the scanning type, which had the widest range but would emit an alarm signal if destroyed.
A high-level stealth spell could directly ignore it.
But considering the subordinates were also involved, he threw a special slime as he crossed the wall, shielding the four nearby scanning devices.
The second type was touch-sensitive alarm devices hidden underground, placed insidiously in areas where people wouldn’t normally walk, but infiltrators liked to pass through.
Just in case, he applied marks that could only be seen with night vision magic to all the sensory devices, using the strength of insects and small birds.
The most difficult was the third type, an un-descending invisible beam, an interception-type surveillance device that only triggered when someone not registered inside the mansion passed through.
However, to prevent small animals and birds from being mistaken for intruders, this magical device would only trigger an alarm if it simultaneously touched a long fuse and two beams.
This gave the Assassin an opportunity.
As a top assassin, his body was incredibly flexible. After casting a spell to enhance his flexibility, he could bend his waist 180 degrees.
So, in just twenty-four seconds, he stealthily passed through the triple traps and turned off all the surveillance devices.
In about twenty-four seconds, they had all entered the mansion.
But for some reason, the mansion was eerily quiet.
The closest sound to them was the one the guards had made when they left.
“Leader… something seems off.”
A subordinate spoke in a voice so soft it was barely audible, yet everyone could hear it clearly.
“Follow the original plan, split up.”
The Assassin said coldly.
Although the situation was a bit unusual, they were all suicide soldiers focused on completing their mission.
Having come this far, there was no way they would retreat.
As for why they weren’t acting together, being wiped out in one fell swoop would be a joke.
And facing the limited personnel left behind, even in a one-on-three or three-on-one situation, each of them could use the cover inside the house to deal with the opponents, waiting for other comrades to come and support.
Moreover, their targets were mostly people without the strength to truss a chicken.
Even if only a few survived, they could easily complete the mission.
Understanding the Assassin’s intention, the subordinates quickly scattered throughout the mansion, disappearing in no time.
The Assassin returned outside, seeing that no other guards were patrolling.
He quickly chased after the guard who seemed to be heading towards the west side of the mansion.
If he guessed correctly, someone in the mansion had noticed something was wrong and ordered the guards to gather.
Unfortunately, it was too late.
It would take time for the unsuspecting people to gather… which gave the Assassin a good opportunity.
He planned to disguise himself as a guard or maid, easily imitate their appearance, and then blend into the crowd.
Then, he and his subordinates would work together to kill everyone in the mansion in one fell swoop.
Soon, he found the guard who seemed to be heading to the west side of the mansion.
He stealthily took out a dagger and threw it at the back of the guard’s head, which was not protected by armor.
Fully armed warriors were naturally the nemesis of assassins.
That day, the weather was hot, and since they were in the relatively safe mansion, the guards only wore light armor and no helmets…
The Assassin’s flying knife would definitely kill the guard!
Bang!
The dagger shot through the air, but just as it was about to hit the guard, it took an odd turn and bounced off the hard, cold ground.
Magical reinforcement?
The Assassin quickly scanned his surroundings, but couldn’t find any trace of a mage.
“Who’s there?”
Noticing the dagger, the guard quickly turned around, looking left and right as if searching for the attacker.
The Assassin wasn’t afraid of this. His stealth magic was already beyond the level of an invisibility cloak.
He was a top assassin who could carry out assassinations right under people’s noses without relying on any tools.
However, for some reason, the Assassin soon saw that guy, who probably only had the strength of a knight apprentice, walking straight towards where he was hiding.
