Consciousness plunged into an endless void of darkness. Perhaps hours passed, or perhaps an entire day.
Lin Yi felt himself enveloped by icy river water, disoriented and unaware of his surroundings. His eyes refused to open, his mouth remained sealed, and his ears could only discern the faint murmur of water.
“Lin Yi, are you very cold?”
“Don’t worry, I’ve already raised the water temperature. Now, Lin Yi won’t be cold, right?”
“I know you don’t like this, but it’s the only way you’ll stay by my side.”
“Rest assured, I will take good care of you.”
The voice in his ear was intermittent, akin to a radio with poor reception.
Lin Yi felt as though he had heard this voice somewhere before, yet he couldn’t quite place it.
“Eh? Lin Yi, can you hear me?”
Suddenly, the darkness before him vanished. A dimly lit room materialized, and Lin Yi’s perspective was as if he were a surveillance camera mounted on the ceiling.
In the center of the room stood a young woman, her silver hair cascading freely.
Before her was a colossal glass container. Inside, a naked youth, approximately 1.7 meters tall, was suspended. His body showcased distinct muscular definition, but his face remained a blurry, gray expanse.
Everything before him gradually grew ethereal. The silver-haired girl lifted her head, her gaze fixed intently on Lin Yi.
“Lin Yi, don’t leave, don’t abandon me!”
The silver-haired girl extended a pale, slender hand, as if to grasp him.
Then, everything disappeared completely. His consciousness, returning from a distant place, settled back into his body.
Lin Yi stared at the unfamiliar ceiling, his mind still reeling, unable to fully process his surroundings.
“I’m fine? I’m not dead?”
Lin Yi immediately exhaled a sigh of relief. Thankfully, what had just transpired was merely a dream. If it had been reality, the consequences would have been unimaginable.
Coming to his senses, Lin Yi glanced around his environment.
White walls, a white ceiling, white floor tiles, and a single LCD television met his gaze.
This was a private hospital room, slightly larger than Lin Yi’s living room at home.
Morning sunlight filtered through the sheer white curtains, casting a gentle glow upon the bed. The soft illumination filled the room with a serene tranquility, capable of calming one’s heart with just a moment’s observation.
However, as Lin Yi took in the scene, a profound confusion settled in his mind. His last memory before losing consciousness was being drugged by Chen Sishi.
Given her nature, she should have taken him to an enclosed space.
Or perhaps, Chen Sishi was allowing Lin Yi to acclimate first?
After conjuring countless explanations, Lin Yi grew increasingly frightened the more he thought about it. In the original plot, Chen Sishi capturing the male lead marked the beginning of her yandere arc.
Once this timeline was reached, the other heroines would also reveal their yandere tendencies, vying for the male lead, essentially fighting fire with fire.
Yet, upon closer reflection, Chen Sishi shouldn’t have succeeded so easily. This world possessed a corrective force; with another heroine still yet to appear, how could he have been captured so readily?
With this realization, Lin Yi’s anxiety significantly eased, and a sense of calm settled within him.
Oh dear~
Just as he was pondering, the door to his hospital room was suddenly pushed open.
Lin Yi’s heart skipped a beat. He swiftly lay back down, retreating into the covers.
However, it was too late; the group of people had already seen Lin Yi sitting up the moment they opened the door.
“Xiao Yi, how are you feeling?”
It wasn’t the voice he had anticipated, and Lin Yi, surprised, poked his head out from under the covers, cautiously looking towards the doorway.
“Sister?!”
Four people had entered the ward: Lin Yiting, Chen Xue, Chen Lujun, and Xu Wei.
Lin Yi rubbed his eyes, still finding it hard to believe what he was seeing.
Just moments ago, he had feared Chen Sishi’s return, prompting him to dive back under the covers in fright.
Although he had suspected something, seeing these individuals still stirred an irrepressible excitement within Lin Yi’s heart.
His heavy heart instantly lightened; he felt as though he had walked back from the gates of hell.
“So, you’re alright now, aren’t you?”
Lin Yiting pulled up a chair and settled gently by the bedside, as if afraid to startle Lin Yi.
Assessing his physical condition, Lin Yi couldn’t help but frown.
His body still felt weak, and his eyes ached, as though he had just recovered from a severe illness.
“Sister, what happened to me? I feel so weak all over.”
Upon seeing his state, Lin Yiting quickly pressed the back of her hand against his forehead. His temperature was still somewhat elevated, but it was significantly better than before.
“Xiao Yi, lie down and rest for a bit. You just had a fever, so your body must be weak.”
Hearing this, Lin Yi was filled with questions. He couldn’t recall catching a cold; how had he suddenly developed a fever for no reason?
Just as he was about to inquire further, another person entered from outside the room. Their body was thin and frail, with a shock of silver hair, and they walked with an erratic, stumbling gait, almost like a zombie.
However, when Lin Yi saw her face, his body trembled slightly.
‘Isn’t that Chen Sishi? Why is she here?’
His body instinctively tensed, and Lin Yi watched the silver-haired girl with wary eyes.
The others were also startled to see Chen Sishi emerge.
Because of yesterday’s torrential rain, both Chen Sishi and Lin Yi had developed fevers.
While Lin Yi, being strong, only had a mild fever, Chen Sishi had been running a high fever since yesterday. She surely hadn’t recovered yet. Her moving around like this was dangerous and could easily lead to complications.
“Sishi, why are you up? Go back to bed and rest quickly.”
Chen Sishi kept her head bowed, appearing not to have heard Chen Lujun’s words.
After struggling to reach Lin Yi’s side, she suddenly knelt on the floor with a thud, her eyes brimming with tears.
Lin Yi, who had still been on high alert, was utterly bewildered. ‘What kind of scene is she trying to create now?’ he wondered.
A strange panic swelled within him. Seeing the girl reduced to a tearful mess, he was momentarily at a loss for what to do.
‘If he helped her up, his own weak body might collapse. But if he didn’t, he couldn’t possibly accept such a “grand gesture,” especially from a yandere.’
As he wrestled with his indecision, Chen Sishi lifted her head, gazing at Lin Yi with expectant, pleading eyes. Her aquamarine pupils were filled with a mixture of apology and a desire to please.
“Lin Yi, I’m sorry, I’m so sorry. I shouldn’t have thought about kidnapping you. It’s all my fault. Please don’t be afraid of me, and please don’t leave me, okay?”
“Uh…”
He didn’t know how to respond to Chen Sishi; agreeing might trigger her condition, but refusing surely would too. For a moment, Lin Yi found himself caught between a rock and a hard place, unable to agree or disagree.
He cast a pleading look towards Chen Lujun, knowing that as Chen Sishi’s father, he surely had a way to handle her when her condition flared.
Seeing that Lin Yi had actively sought his help, Chen Lujun had no choice but to intervene.
“Alright, Sishi, go back and rest now.”
This time, Chen Sishi was remarkably obedient; she gracefully stood up. Clutching the corner of her clothes, she quietly exited the room.
After Chen Sishi had left, Chen Lujun turned his gaze to the others present.
“You all can head back first. I need to speak with Lin Yi.”
