An Unprepared Apology and a New Path

Chapter 88 • 785 words • 7 min read

‘Of course, I wasn’t foolish. I understood her intentions perfectly, especially when it came to someone she barely knew…’

As I ran through the corridor, many people paused their activities, gazing with a mixture of curiosity and astonishment at the blood-soaked loli rushing past. Yet, not a single person dared to intervene, clearly unwilling to invite trouble upon themselves.

Although the company that owned this arcade was indeed aligned with Ken Laxting, most of the regular employees remained oblivious to this fact.

Thus, I sprinted unimpeded straight into the arcade.

By the entrance, the God’s Agent, who had been feigning a nap on a long bench, seemed to sense my presence. Her eyes snapped open, and upon seeing me drenched in blood, she frowned deeply. “What happened?” she asked.

I composed myself, though a significant area around me had already cleared out due to my appearance. After all, who would willingly approach someone covered in blood? It would be terribly unfair to get embroiled in any potential trouble.

I recounted the entire sequence of events to the God’s Agent. She sat on the bench, propping her chin with one hand, lost in thought for a prolonged moment. “This was my oversight,” she finally stated. “Fortunately, you were incredibly lucky. However, that is no excuse for my error, and so, I apologize to you once again.”

I was immediately taken aback. I had genuinely believed the fault was mine, and had braced myself for a scolding—perhaps for insisting on venturing out. Her apology left me utterly unprepared.

“Actually, this… it’s… it’s my fault. It’s not yours at all,” I stammered, my tongue tangling with guilt, my words an incoherent mess.

“There’s no need to claim it was your mistake,” the God’s Agent said, her tone unwavering. “It is the agent’s responsibility to thoroughly investigate the destination, and this time, I failed in my duty.”

I was about to protest further when, suddenly, a commotion erupted within the distant crowd. Moments later, several figures pushed their way through the throng and stepped forward.

“Cough!” I let out a cough as a sudden, forceful impact knocked into me.

After a moment of disorientation, I registered the pleasant scent and soft embrace. ‘So fragrant, so soft…’ I thought, a hint of regret as I glanced at Lavishly Karafar’s regrettably flat chest. ‘Too bad there are no ‘oppai’ to speak of…’

“Little Mengmeng, you had us so worried!” Lavishly Karafar exclaimed, hugging me tightly.

“Huh?” I asked, surprised. “You knew about this?”

Lavishly Karafar nodded. “As soon as we entered, they captured us. However, from where we were imprisoned, we could watch your entire game. We also knew that the killers were aware of your identity. They even threatened to kill us once you were dead.”

As she spoke, Lavishly Karafar rubbed against me several times, her voice brimming with satisfaction. “But Little Mengmeng, that was incredibly gratifying!”

“Indeed,” Xilinka said, walking over and giving a thumbs-up. “Well done. That was the first person I’ve ever encountered who truly disgusted me. Your surprise attack certainly taught him a sufficient lesson, didn’t it?”

“That bad guy’s face got completely flattened!” Mifeier chirped, running over to interject. “He truly deserved a beating earlier, with that disgusting expression that made him look like he saw through everything. It would be fine if he were actually smart, but what’s so great about cheating? Still…” Mifeier giggled. “He ended up looking like a pig’s head!”

I scratched my head. “Honestly, I didn’t mean to be that brutal,” I admitted. “But it seems my gamble paid off this time…”

“So, what do we do next?” I asked, looking at the God’s Agent. Truthfully, I had no further plans.

“The same answer as before: I don’t know,” the God’s Agent replied, still refusing to offer any suggestions, merely shaking her head.

“Then, just a little bit, could you give me even a small general direction?” I pleaded, gazing at her with hopeful eyes, wishing she might relent.

She sighed. “Go and build your own fighting force. In the future, war will be absolutely unavoidable. Start thinking about how to establish your own legion.”

I had, in fact, pondered this very issue before, though the Divine Realm offered no viable solutions. “I want to seek out the former followers of Blood Lotus Tianqi,” I told the God’s Agent. “Could you offer any advice on that?”

This time, the God’s Agent nodded. “So, you’ve finally decided to use your wits,” she remarked, scanning our group before a sudden smile graced her lips. “Seek out the Shadow Sword Emperor, Qianliu Yingyue.”

At the mention of that name, Qianyue, who had remained silent until then, visibly trembled.
