At Star Ring Base, Starport One, Ming Yu followed the leading officer away from the room once the transport ship had anchored. Trailing behind, Qing Shui Ling Yin curiously gazed left and right, while Little Nightingale walked silently beside Ming Yu.
“Esteemed Ming Yu, Lord Augu awaits you. Please follow me.”
Angoroo stepped out of his power armor, a sincere expression emerging on his weathered, experienced face. His demeanor was exceptionally friendly.
Being new to this place, Ming Yu, though unaccustomed, nodded in response.
With the Marine Corps escorting them, no incidents occurred during their journey.
The hovercar, carrying its distinguished guests, glided slowly through the capital city. Skyscrapers of bizarre and varied designs lined the streets, while holographic roads, projected in real-time across the sky, ensured the safety of all aerial traffic.
Typically, these holographic roads glowed a faint blue. However, the path unfurling beneath Ming Yu’s hovercar shone a brilliant golden yellow.
Moreover, under the watchful eyes of countless citizens, the Marines activated their jet engines, electromagnetic rifles held ready, as they flanked the hovercar from all sides.
As was widely known, Marines possessed the ability to fly. The term ‘Marine’ itself didn’t strictly refer to ground combat, but rather to planetary landing operations.
Inside the hovercar, both Qing Shui Ling Yin and Little Nightingale were captivated by the cyberpunk atmosphere outside the windows. Their gazes flitted from one towering building to another, from one sleek hovercar to the next, feeling utterly awestruck.
Though this was Ming Yu’s first time witnessing such a spectacle, her life experiences far surpassed those of the two girls. She buried all her astonishment deep within her heart, her expression betraying little emotion.
Besides, she had urgent matters to attend to and neither the mood nor the time for sightseeing.
“Mr. Angoroo, the ‘Lord Augu’ you mentioned… I seem to have some recollection of that name.”
Upon hearing the name ‘Augu,’ Ming Yu immediately recalled her journey through the Ethereal Realm and an old man she had met floating in the water.
Considering Angoroo’s respectful attitude, Ming Yu surmised that the Augu who invited her was likely the same old man from her memory; he must have known her.
Angoroo, hearing this, showed no surprise but did not speak out of turn, instead awaiting instructions in his mind.
‘Just as expected,’ Lord Augu’s voice echoed in his mind.
‘Angoroo, sound her out. Ask her if she’s willing to stay here with the Immortal, of her own volition.’
‘Understood.’
Following the directive, Angoroo snapped his fingers. Immediately, a seam appeared in the inner wall of the carriage, widening into a rectangular recess that revealed a cooler stocked with chilled beverages.
He gestured to Ming Yu, speaking calmly, “Esteemed Ming Yu, and to the other two as well: we have milk tea, fruit juice, spirits—everything imaginable. Please, help yourselves.”
With that, Angoroo was the first to take out his favorite cocktail, swirling the stem glass before taking a small sip.
In his experience, his comrades always had fine wine and spirits ready for discussions, preferring to chat while they drank.
Seeing this, Ming Yu raised an eyebrow slightly.
For her, only alcohol truly held her interest, yet her body no longer permitted significant alcohol intake.
However, given the earnestness of his offer, it was truly difficult to refuse.
‘Well, just this once. A small drink for enjoyment.’
Just as Ming Yu reached out to take a drink, two arms extended simultaneously from either side, blocking her movement.
Qing Shui Ling Yin scanned Ming Yu’s face, her eyes holding a deep, meaningful gaze. “You are not allowed to drink.”
“Uh…” Ming Yu’s expression froze.
“The doctor said Ming Yu cannot touch alcohol,” Little Nightingale firmly stated, effectively rejecting the offer.
Both girls knew very well that Ming Yu had few things she truly liked, and alcohol was chief among them. According to Ming Yu, this preference was a legacy from her sect.
“Alright,” Ming Yu murmured, her head slightly bowed in resignation.
Left with no other choice, Ming Yu took two glasses of fruit juice, handing them to Qing Shui Ling Yin and Little Nightingale, though she herself had no particular interest in them.
Angoroo, witnessing this, immediately stopped his action, hiding the wine glass behind his seat. He then apologized to the three, especially to the blonde girl.
“My apologies. I was inconsiderate.”
Unsure if his actions had left a poor impression on the Immortal, he became flustered, secretly swallowed, and quickly changed the subject.
“By the way, I heard from an old gentleman that Esteemed Ming Yu has urgent matters to attend to on this visit. Might I inquire what these urgent matters are? Perhaps I could be of assistance.”
Angoroo no longer beat around the bush, directly revealing what he already knew and using it to probe her intentions. He didn’t know the specifics, only that she had a purpose for willingly coming to Alpha.
Naturally, all former inhabitants of the Old World who wished to come to the New World inevitably harbored certain objectives; this was a normal state of affairs.
Hearing these words, Ming Yu’s eyes narrowed, her expression abruptly changing.
“Can you make decisions?”
“I, uh…”
As Angoroo hesitated, Augu, who was constantly monitoring the situation, immediately gave him instructions, allowing Angoroo to sigh in relief. He then spoke deeply, “Of course I can. Please, speak your mind.”
“I need doctors. The best doctors.”
“Doctors?”
“The medical standards of the Old World couldn’t cure their illnesses, so I brought them here.”
“…I understand.”
Angoroo nodded slightly, discreetly observing Little Nightingale, who sat quietly beside them. He feigned a thoughtful expression, awaiting further instructions from Augu.
Moments later.
“We are about to arrive at the Cabinet Office. You can meet with Lord Augu to discuss this matter in detail. I have other official duties that require my immediate attention.”
‘Didn’t this fellow just say he could make decisions?’
Ming Yu frowned slightly but said nothing, merely nodding. In any case, she had already arrived in the New World, and she and Augu had likely met before, which should make discussions more convenient.
In addition to Qing Shui Ling Yin and Little Nightingale’s illnesses, White Feather’s issues also needed to be resolved as quickly as possible, so it was convenient to handle them together.
The once grand and majestic United Nations Congress Grand Auditorium had now become the headquarters for the ruling politicians led by Augu, renamed the United Nations Cabinet.
Following reforms, the Psionic Faction Military had seized core leadership positions. While other factions held advisory roles, they possessed no governing authority.
In academia, Augu had not suppressed dissenting ideologies such as the Genetic Ascension School, the Digital Life School, or the Cybernetic Enhancement School—at least, not yet.
The Cabinet had only four seats. Besides Augu, the other three seats were each held by highly respected, senior psionicists from the psionic community, representing the four major branches of the psionic system.
These included the ancient Telepathy School, the mysterious Divination and Prophecy School, the powerful Psychokinesis School, and the nascent Psionic Augmentation School.
The first three had originated centuries ago, while the Psionic Augmentation School was a product of technological advancement. Though it had only emerged in recent decades, it had developed remarkably quickly, standing as a cross-disciplinary school of psionics and genetics.
From the Old World’s sea beast hunters, scholars of the Psionic Augmentation School had glimpsed a bright future.
