Fairy CCB! Win! No regrets this time!

Chapter 9 • 1,641 words • 14 min read

The frigid darkness of the tiny black room finally dissipated, and Reg was yanked back to consciousness, his eyes snapping open.

He found himself standing under the sunlight by the Misty Lake. The trailer was safely parked where it should be, and the figures of Cirno and Daiyousei hadn’t yet appeared.

The chilling sensation of being sprayed dead by the coolant seemed to still linger on his skin.

He shivered violently, touching his neck with lingering fear. The last death was due to a stagnation of blood leading to a myocardial infarction.

“Calm down… I need to try a different approach this time…”

Reg muttered under his breath, forcing his mind—which was frighteningly clear due to the death-reversal—to work.

His ‘Special Point’ had increased by a tiny bit, but the fatigue in his body and the dread of facing a fatal threat were now deeper.

He absolutely couldn’t touch that damn refrigerator himself again.

Who knew what else might malfunction this time? Aging condenser coils, a burst pressure relief valve, or even the compressor overheating and exploding…

His passive, bad-luck-magnet physique always managed to find the most unfortunate way to die; it was something he’d had to get used to in his daily life.

In the distance, those two familiar figures—the blue idiot and the green sidekick—were chattering excitedly as they flew over from the direction of the Ice Fairy’s house.

“Reg!”

Cirno’s energetic voice rang out, followed by her and Daiyousei landing in front of the trailer.

“Ice cream! Ice cream!”

Cirno impatiently flapped her tiny wings.

“Mr. Reg, good afternoon. Um, we…”

Daiyousei was more reserved, but her eyes were also full of anticipation.

Reg didn’t immediately go to open the door and retrieve the ice cream as he usually would.

“Sigh… You two came at a perfect time. I’m utterly exhausted today, I feel completely out of sorts. My shoulders are terribly sore, and my back is tight…”

He rotated his shoulders, which felt a little stiff from the instantaneous death he’d just experienced, and let out a long sigh, his voice sounding genuinely weary.

He deliberately rubbed the back of his neck, making it seem very painful.

“Huh?”

Cirno tilted her head, clearly not quite grasping what Reg meant.

“Mr. Reg, are you tired? Did you move something heavy?”

Daiyousei asked with concern.

“Yeah… something like that. I feel uncomfortable all over, I don’t even have the strength to open the refrigerator. I just feel like if I touch that refrigerator door, something even more unlucky will happen…”

Reg spoke vaguely, his eyes glancing at the refrigerator quietly resting inside the trailer.

He knew the excuse was weak, but it was enough to fool the simple-minded fairies.

He pointed to a relatively clean and flat spot on the ground nearby and addressed the two fairies.

“How about this, you two do me a favor. Come help me pound my back, pinch my shoulders, or even step on my back will do.

If you manage to make me comfortable, and I regain my energy… I’ll get you the ice cream. Cirno, you can have as many strawberry ones as you want.

And next time, I might bring you lollipops.”

He specifically emphasized the action of getting the ice cream, implying he wouldn’t open it himself.

Cirno blinked, apparently trying hard to understand the terms of the exchange.

“Pounding back? Pinching shoulders? Stepping on back?”

Her logic was simple.

Effort is equal to Reward.

“Yes! Exactly! Like… how Daiyousei usually pats the dust off you, but you need to use a little more force, focusing on the shoulders and back here…”

Reg turned around and pointed to the areas he felt were stiff.

“For stepping on my back, a gentle step is fine for normal people, but for you fairies, you’ll need to use all your strength, right in this area.”

He roughly gestured to the areas on either side of his spine, then added:

“The most important thing is don’t touch the refrigerator! Don’t even touch the refrigerator door! Otherwise, the ice cream might disappear!”

“Oh! Got it! Leave it to me! Dai-chan! Come on! We’ll pound Reg’s back to get ice cream!”

Cirno finally got excited. She felt she had found a way to earn ice cream.

Daiyousei thought Mr. Reg’s state and way of speaking were a bit strange today, but hearing that helping with a back rub meant ice cream, the deal seemed pretty good.

“Alright, Mr. Reg, please lie down?”

Daiyousei’s voice was soft, and she was eager to start.

Reg carefully avoided any path that might bring him near the refrigerator door, walked to a slightly more open, shaded spot near the trailer, and lay down on a clean patch of grass.

I hope the refrigerator doesn’t explode again. How did I get hypothermia just now? Was it Cirno’s ‘Perfect Freeze’?

He took a deep breath, raising his awareness to the maximum, and silently prayed that the two little ones’ service wouldn’t bring any new, unexpected surprises…

Cirno and Daiyousei exchanged a look, and with an infinite longing for ice cream, they walked up to Reg, one in front of the other.

Cirno’s little fists were already twitching, and Daiyousei’s small hands were ready to descend. A massage full of fairy love was about to begin.

Thump! Thump! Thump!

Reg felt that today’s fatigue was totally worth it; being served by these fairies was incredibly comfortable.

Cirno’s small fists and Daiyousei’s palms fell upon Reg’s back. The force was uneven, sometimes light, sometimes heavy, and occasionally a cool draft of icy air would brush against him.

Daiyousei was quite serious, her fingers gently poking around Reg’s shoulder blades, diligently trying to imitate what she imagined a massage should look like.

Cirno, however, was more playful, tapping one moment, then poking Reg’s lower back the next, giggling when he suddenly flinched.

“Hey, hey, Cirno, massage the back, don’t poke randomly!”

Reg reminded her, a mix of exasperation and amusement in his voice, but his heart slowly began to relax.

The clumsy service brought more of a lively feeling of being attended to, dispelling some of his pent-up fatigue and coldness.

His body aches genuinely seemed to be easing slightly.

After only a little while, Cirno grew impatient, her small wings unconsciously fanning the air.

She glanced around, and her eyes suddenly landed on the little contraptions Reg had made, resting on the shelves.

Especially a few wooden spin tops that Reg had polished until they were perfectly smooth and round, gleaming with a soft luster in the afternoon sun.

“This is so boring, gua!”

Cirno suddenly stopped her movements and pointed at the tops, shouting loudly.

“Massaging is no fun at all! Reg! Let’s play with the spin tops! Spin them like the one you gave me last time! I want to spin mine longer than Dai-chan this time!”

Daiyousei was also drawn in, stopping her actions and nodding. Her eyes sparkled as she looked at the tops.

“Yes, Mr. Reg, it’s been a long time since we saw you spin a top. Um… can we play?”

Reg was just starting to enjoy that tiny bit of meager relaxation, and hearing this request made him even happier.

This was far better than continuing to endure their haphazard massage!

He had been worrying if the two of them could keep it up long enough for him to feel adequately relieved.

Now that they had diverted their attention themselves, it was a pleasant surprise.

“Of course, you can!”

Reg propped himself up on his elbows, a genuinely relaxed smile spreading across his face; the previous sense of fatigue seemed to be washed away by this simple request.

“Which one do you like? Pick them yourselves! I’ll show you what real skill is.”

He was more than willing.

Playing with spin tops, a simple activity that wouldn’t lead to a deadly accident, was exactly the diversion he needed right now.

The two fairies cheered immediately and rushed toward the shelves, beginning a serious selection process among the pile of small objects.

Reg stretched his muscles, which felt slightly numb from the massaging. Watching them argue over which top had the prettiest pattern deepened the smile on his face.

“They’re so cute… If I had daughters as lovely as them, I would sacrifice all my life to protect them.”

And so, Reg spent his time spinning tops. Suddenly, a giant frog appeared in the distance, attempting to swallow him whole. Reg pushed the two fairies away and was immediately caught by a giant tongue.

Reg entered the frog’s stomach, and after managing to slice the frog’s belly open, he was accidentally frozen by Cirno… And so, he died again in the course of his daily life.

Today I died from ‘Cute’!

He thought to himself.

This is bad… I’m starting to disregard life again. I must gradually change this.

Otherwise, how can I become a normal person?

Suddenly, a nosebleed gushed out. In a dizzying haze, he stumbled and hit a large rock. Crunch! His skull shattered.

[All-Knowing & All-Capable]: “Damn loli-con, do you have no shame? If you want them, just go for it. I remember back in the day, with Little Red Riding Hood… ahem ahem…”

[Normal Person]: “Honestly, it’s all because the fairies are too cute! Why did I have to bump into a huge rock all of a sudden?”

[All-Knowing & All-Capable]: “Go ahead and do whatever you want. Whether it’s violating them or murdering them… in the end, everything will just revert to the starting point you wished for, won’t it?”

[Normal Person]: “They’re not NPCs, though, they’re real people.”

[All-Knowing & All-Capable]: “They are… but one day, you will accept it.”

Reg sat there, wanting to touch the darkness around him, but his body was unable to move.
