I Dreamed My Boyfriend Locked Me Up

Chapter 9 • 1,319 words • 11 min read

Just then, her phone buzzed again. It was another WeChat message from Wen Zhaoci.

Z.C: [Do you like the necklace? Rest early. Good night.]

Sang Jiuning stared at the two words “Good night” on the screen and felt a headache coming on.

How was she supposed to reply?

Say “No, take it back”?

Or just say “Thanks, good night”?

After going back and forth, she finally typed a few words back: [Good night. Sleep early.]

Whatever—just get through it for now.

As for tomorrow… tomorrow’s problems could wait until tomorrow. Right now, all she wanted was to sleep and hope that when she woke up, all of this would have been just a dream.

Maybe if she slept well enough, she could transmigrate back.

A moment later, Wen Zhaoci’s message came through again.

Z.C: [Do you not like me anymore? You used to call me “kissy boyfriend” all the time.]

Sang Jiuning paused for a moment, then sent back: [Kissy boyfriend~ Good night.JPG]

Wen Zhaoci looked at the adorable good-night sticker of a sleepy chinchilla that “Puffed-up Little Chinchilla” had sent, then lowered his head and caught the faint scent of gardenia still lingering on his hand.

Mm. It smelled wonderful.

The corner of his mouth curved upward.

After washing up, Sang Jiuning slowly climbed the ladder to her bed, ready to sleep. But before she could settle in, Tang Tongtong piped up with excitement: “Jiuning, you’re famous.”

“Huh?” Sang Jiuning’s heart skipped a beat—a bad feeling creeping in.

“On the campus forum. The post about you and Senior Wen’s relationship is pinned at number one,” Tang Tongtong said.

Hearing that, Qin Ying leaned over to look at Tang Tongtong’s phone. “Wow, that title is way too sweet.”

Sang Jiuning quickly grabbed her own phone and opened the campus forum. At the very top, bold and pink-highlighted, was a post: ——Computer Programming’s Cool Academic God Has Intimate Interaction with Girlfriend Outside Her Dorm.

She scrolled down and saw a photo: a tall man gently ruffling a girl’s hair. The image was crystal clear—and it was unmistakably her and Wen Zhaoci.

Sang Jiuning: “???”

It had only been two hours since she got back to the dorm, and this post was already pinned to the top?

What was worse, there were already over a thousand replies below it.

Staring at the dense flood of comments on her screen, her cheeks burned instantly, and her fingers felt stiff.

In just two hours, the campus forum had exploded. Likes and comments had skyrocketed, and what had started as an obscure gossip thread had been pinned by the moderators, its bold pink title impossible to miss.

The photo had been taken at a perfect angle. Under the dim yellow streetlight, Wen Zhaoci stood tall, his head lowered as his hand gently ruffled her hair. All the cold aloofness he usually wore had melted away, replaced by a tenderness that was almost unbelievable.

Even the way she had slightly lowered her head, the tips of her ears flushed red, was clearly captured.

“It’s over, it’s over…”

Sang Jiuning covered her face and flopped backward onto her bed, pulling the blanket over half her face, her voice muffled.

The whole school knows.

Tang Tongtong leaned over the edge of her bed, eyes sparkling with gossip-fueled glee: “Oh my god, Jiuning! The whole forum is shipping you two!”

Qin Ying nodded in agreement, clicking her tongue in amazement: “Usually Wen Zhaoci is like an iceberg on campus—completely indifferent to girls. Apart from going to class and the library, he barely interacts with anyone. Who would’ve thought he’d be so doting with his girlfriend behind the scenes? The forum is full of people jealous of you, saying you hit the jackpot.”

The comments kept flooding in.

[The cool academic god’s facade shattered! I’ve never seen Wen Shen smile before!]

[A perfect match! She’s so gentle and pretty!]

[So much for anyone secretly crushing on Senior Wen—time to give up now, I guess.]

[Does anyone else get it? The head-rub under the streetlight, the vibe is off the charts.]

[The cafeteria food-sharing, the dorm-head-rub—this relationship is off the sweetness scale.]

The more Sang Jiuning read, the more embarrassed she became. Her ears burned so hot they felt like they might bleed, her heart thumping chaotically.

She had wanted to keep things low-key, to date quietly without being watched by the entire campus.

In a panic, she fumbled for her phone and was about to message Wen Zhaoci to complain when she saw that the typing indicator above their chat was already moving.

Almost at the exact same moment, his message popped up.

Z.C: [Did you see the forum post?]

Sang Jiuning’s fingers froze, her cheeks growing warmer. She typed slowly.

Puffed-up Little Chinchilla: […Yeah, I saw it. The whole school knows now.]

His reply came almost instantly.

Z.C: [Good that they know.]

Sang Jiuning blinked, confused.

Puffed-up Little Chinchilla: [Good?]

Z.C: [You’re my girlfriend.]

Just that simple, straightforward sentence. Sang Jiuning stared at the screen and didn’t feel like replying.

She had been so focused on the gift that she had completely overlooked the fact that he had touched her head!

That damn head-rub!

And honestly—that photo, with that perfect angle… if she weren’t the subject, she might have shipped it herself.

A few seconds later, another message came through.

Z.C: [Let them ship it. It’s real anyway. And, kissy girlfriend, no need to be shy.]

Sang Jiuning: Please, just let me die.

Finally, she sent back another sleepy chinchilla sticker and ended the conversation.

On the other side, Wen Zhaoci looked at the sticker and murmured softly, “This little chinchilla really is cute.”

It was unclear whether he was talking about the sticker or the person.

That night, Sang Jiuning was trapped in a relentless string of nightmares, tossing and turning without a moment’s peace.

The dreams were absurd and suffocating, filled with images of Wen Zhaoci over and over again.

In the dream, the man’s brows were sharp and cold, his aura terrifyingly oppressive.
His eyes carried a disgust and icy detachment she had never seen before, as he told her, word by word, that the person she had truly been chasing from the very beginning was never him—it was Weng Zhicheng.

When he discovered the truth, Wen Zhaoci flew into a rage. He grabbed her, terrified and trembling, and ruthlessly threw her into a desolate, remote mountain forest.
The wind howled around her, wolves’ howls echoed from all directions, and the chilling growls of beasts pressed against her ears, sending ice-cold terror down her spine.

Then the scene shifted to a windowless, suffocating room, heavy curtains blocking out every ray of light. She was locked inside, trapped in endless confinement as despair coiled around her heart. Even her breath felt stifled under the crushing pressure.

All night long, the nightmares came in a relentless, terrifying loop—fear and dread pulling her back and forth.
By the time dawn’s faint light crept in, Sang Jiuning felt dizzy and exhausted, dark circles under her eyes.
Her whole body ached as if she had truly been tormented through the night, with no rest whatsoever.

Morning sunlight streamed through the classroom windows, slanting across the desks.
The English teacher stood at the podium, droning on in fluent, complex sentences, a stream of obscure vocabulary and intricate grammar patterns washing over the class.

Sang Jiuning propped her chin on her hand, staring blankly at the blackboard.
Every word that reached her ears sounded like a foreign language—in one ear and out the other, not a single syllable registering.

Drowsiness mixed with the lingering fear from last night washed over her in waves, her consciousness drifting further away.
In her half-asleep state, she suddenly found herself remembering everything from before she had transmigrated into this book.
