The Luxury Carry and a Heavenly Ally

Chapter 91,229 words11 min read

Due to its class traits, Berserker excels in one-on-one combat but struggles with mob grinding.

It lacks decent AoE skills, and the ones it has deal pathetic damage. Even with good gear and control, solo play has its inconveniences, but this? This felt like a breath of fresh air.

Embarrassed by my involuntary clapping, I lowered my hands and followed PatchNote, soaking up EXP.

The sheer number of mobs he cleared, combined with this being a level-appropriate dungeon and his “Mentor of the Battlefield” title granting bonus EXP, made my level skyrocket.

[Party/DontOrderMe: Thanks so much!]

[Party/DontOrderMe: My level’s shooting up because of you.]

[Party/PatchNote: No big deal.]

[Party/PatchNote: It’s fun running low-level dungeons after so long.]

[Party/PatchNote: Wanna hit the next one together?]

Hell yeah, I’m grateful! The next dungeon was Volcanus, tough for a solo player at my level.

PatchNote, true to form, gathered mobs in one spot and obliterated them with bombardment-level skills. Control? Who needs it? One skill and the mobs dropped like flies.

This was beyond a comfy bus—it was a luxury limousine. But while munching snacks, I wondered, Is this okay? Shouldn’t I contribute something? Sure, carries usually mean lowbies sit back while high-levels handle everything, but I’m not a real newbie.

I sneaked in some attacks, taking out a few mobs. This felt better than doing nothing.

[Party/PatchNote: Berserker’s tough to play.]

[Party/PatchNote: Your main’s a Berserker too, right?]

[Party/PatchNote: Nice control.]

His question caught me off guard, and I scrambled for a response. I already said I’m not a newbie, so it’s probably fine.

[Party/DontOrderMe: Got bored just standing there.]

[Party/DontOrderMe: Feels kinda bad getting carried when I’m not a total newbie…]

[Party/PatchNote: I’m cool with it.]

[Party/PatchNote: Let’s head straight to the Volcanus boss.]

[Party/PatchNote: Your gear’s not great yet, so let’s farm it for a bit.]

[Party/PatchNote: Gear from here should last you a while.]

“Is this guy an angel?”

Helping a low-level veteran like me, not even a real newbie, with this much kindness? That’s rare. I’m nice to newbies myself, but unless I know them, I wouldn’t bother helping with an alt.

Flustered, I watched as PatchNote casually downed the Volcanus boss and dumped all the loot on me. Some weren’t Berserker-specific but could sell for a decent price. Can someone be this nice? Isn’t he worried about getting scammed later?

[Party/DontOrderMe: You sure this is okay?]

[Party/PatchNote: What?]

[Party/DontOrderMe: I mean, you’re basically doing unpaid labor.]

[Party/DontOrderMe: I’m not a real newbie…]

[Party/DontOrderMe: Doesn’t it bother you?]

I meant it sincerely, but he replied nonchalantly, which felt even more impressive.

[Party/PatchNote: Doesn’t matter.]

[Party/PatchNote: We help each other out, you know?]

“An actual angel?”

Did he lose his wings coming down to earth? Or are they hidden somewhere? Amid all the toxic players, finding this lily of kindness hit me like a tsunami of emotion.

[Party/DontOrderMe: I’ll pay you back for this…]

[Party/DontOrderMe: No, I’ll just pay a carry fee.]

[Party/DontOrderMe: I’ve got plenty of gold from my main.]

[Party/PatchNote: Lol, it’s fine.]

[Party/PatchNote: I’m having fun partying for once.]

How can he be so chill? I’ve got some pride—I can’t just mooch.

Even if it’s pocket change to him, I needed to give something to feel right.

I initiated a trade, sending him gold. He tried dodging it, but my persistence won, and he finally accepted.

After farming Volcanus and grabbing gear, my damage spiked for a lowbie.

This should hold me until level 70. First time gearing up this fast—felt almost emotional staring at the monitor.

PatchNote congratulated me and suggested hitting the next dungeon.

[Party/DontOrderMe: You sure you’ve got time?]

[Party/PatchNote: Yup, I’m free all day tomorrow.]

[Party/PatchNote: If we keep at it, you might hit 80 today.]

[Party/DontOrderMe: What?]

[Party/PatchNote: Let’s grind.]

[Party/PatchNote: Cool with that?]

I’m fine, but… are you? I’m barely in my 40s—80’s a long way off. Flustered, I typed “thanks” without thinking.

Another round of hardcore leveling? I’m getting excited. Not many would do this knowing I’m a veteran. Heart pounding, I headed to the next dungeon.

Dungeons give about 10% more EXP than fields, but the mobs are tankier and hit harder.

The difference is significant, so parties usually prefer dungeon grinding. I trailed PatchNote, blankly watching his slaughterfest.

Itching to do something, I tried jumping in, but he told me to wait since he’s faster alone. In the end, I did nothing.

This makes me feel like dead weight, and I hate that.

A man’s got pride—how can I just leech? But even when I tried sneaking in some damage, PatchNote’s overwhelming output made it pointless.

If I were a real newbie, I’d be crying myself to sleep, thinking, I’m trash, time to quit.

Thanks to PatchNote’s relentless grinding, I was closing in on level 60.

My initial guilt for taking up his time faded, seduced by the luxury limousine.

First time meeting him, but he’s an amazing carry. Chatting between hunts, I started liking the guy himself.

[Party/DontOrderMe: Your damage is insane.]

[Party/DontOrderMe: Absolute beast.]

[Party/PatchNote: Thanks ㅎㅎ]

[Party/DontOrderMe: I’m a veteran too, but you’re on another level.]

[Party/DontOrderMe: Leveling’s so easy thanks to you.]

I meant it. I’ve never met someone this good at carrying! With a level-up effect, I hit 60, and a message popped up about my second class advancement.

It doesn’t change the class name, but it unlocks key skills and boosts overall damage. Time to finish the advancement and farm more gear.

[Party/DontOrderMe: Yo.]

[Party/DontOrderMe: Hit 60, gotta do my second advancement.]

[Party/PatchNote: What’s the Berserker advancement?]

[Party/DontOrderMe: Soul of the Sky.]

[Party/PatchNote: See you at Sky Tower then.]

He’s helping with the advancement too? Not wanting to miss this chance, I told PatchNote I’d grab the quest quick and teleported to town.

Back when I was a newbie, I walked everywhere to save teleport fees.

But with the gold I brought from my main, I had plenty left even after paying PatchNote.

Plus, he gave me all the drops and gold from our runs, so I ended up richer. This guy’s a saint!

Rushing to the advancement NPC, I grabbed the quest and headed to Sky Tower.

The boss, “Soul of the Sky,” is tough to solo. You’d need at least four raiders at the right level to take it down—a raid boss for this level range.

[Party/PatchNote: I’ll take it down quick.]

[Party/DontOrderMe: Yup.]

PatchNote carved a path to the boss with his overwhelming damage, making the Soul of the Sky feel puny.

A boss with over 30 HP bars, but with PatchNote casually popping expensive buff items and unleashing skills, it dropped to 4 bars in one hit.

I gasped in awe.

This is why people rave about buses.

Thanks to him, I completed my second advancement at lightning speed.
