The Weight of Despair and a New Resolve

Chapter 92904 words8 min read

“Cough, cough, cough,” Shadow Sword Emperor Qianliu Yingyue coughed violently, having been flung several meters away. “Forget it, you win.” Such immense force had nearly claimed half his life, even for a legendary powerhouse like him.

“Are you… a Giant Fist Demon?”

“No, I’m not…” I didn’t even know why I possessed such immense power. I used to think it was because I had become a god, which explained my strength. But it seemed my power was quite extraordinary even among other deities…

“Forget it,” Shadow Sword Emperor Qianliu Yingyue murmured, remaining sprawled on the ground, making no move to rise. His eyes grew dim and clouded.

“Shall we start anew, together?” God’s Agent approached Shadow Sword Emperor Qianliu Yingyue, looking down at him.

“What’s the point?” Shadow Sword Emperor Qianliu Yingyue’s gaze remained hollow, completely devoid of its former brilliance. “If the outcome is already predetermined, why struggle in vain?”

God’s Agent simply watched his empty eyes, offering no words.

“Xini died, Vivian died, the Heavenly Capital Empress, the Dragon Domain Emperor—they all died. Lord Blood Lotus also perished. What did their deaths achieve? Another cycle? Another repetition of tragedy? My death means nothing, but to watch countless others suffer again…” Shadow Sword Emperor Qianliu Yingyue’s emotions flared, his handsome brows furrowing, and his cheeks flushing crimson.

God’s Agent remained silent. She truly didn’t know how to persuade this man. In truth, she herself felt a deep sense of confusion. She had merely followed the commands Blood Lotus had given her ‘before her death,’ never contemplating their deeper meaning or whether it was all for naught.

“Is that the excuse a waste uses to escape?” I looked at him with eyes that saw nothing but dregs.

Everyone stared at me, astonished.

“It’s always like this. When wastes want to escape, they ask, ‘What’s the point?’ Do you really think your pathetic escapes have any meaning? Their deaths are an excuse? As if your inaction somehow validates their sacrifice? If you run now, it simply proves that those who died were fools, deserving of their meaningless deaths. If you’re trash, either find a hole to bury yourself in—slowly rotting away is just polluting the environment—or get cleaned up and see if you have even a tiny bit of recycling value… *Mph*… *mph*…” My hand clamped over my mouth forcefully. That wasn’t what I meant to say. I had been momentarily distracted by Shadow Sword Emperor Qianliu Yingyue’s words, and the entity within me had temporarily seized control of my body. What now…

“Indeed, that is precisely it.” God’s Agent affirmed my words, turning her gaze to Shadow Sword Emperor Qianliu Yingyue. “By not participating at all, you are truly watching each person go to their deaths. Step onto the battlefield again; even if your strength is meager, you might save someone. If you’re not afraid to die, then isn’t that the very meaning you seek?”

“Is it?” Shadow Sword Emperor Qianliu Yingyue lowered his gaze. “I don’t know anymore.” Perhaps he truly was escaping, hiding in this independent space so he wouldn’t see, wouldn’t grieve, wouldn’t despair. Perhaps it was simply his own weakness.

“Would you like to try?” God’s Agent extended her hand to Shadow Sword Emperor Qianliu Yingyue, who still lay on the ground, his eyes lost in confusion. “If it doesn’t work out, we can always run.” She smiled after speaking.

Shadow Sword Emperor Qianliu Yingyue stared blankly at God’s Agent’s fair, outstretched hand for a long moment. “Sister Xi, your hand is still as pale as ever.” He grasped her hand and stood up. “Alright, let’s do it. Though running isn’t exactly my preferred lifestyle.”

“And you,” Shadow Sword Emperor Qianliu Yingyue turned to me, “don’t think that just because you beat me once, I’ll give you my cutest little sister. And I’m quite resentful about you calling me trash, you know.” He chuckled softly.

I could only offer an awkward smile. If there were a crack in the ground, you wouldn’t see me standing here anymore.

‘Even trash can have some backbone.’

“Eh?!” I cried out in surprise. They all looked at me, and I could only shake my head, indicating nothing was wrong.

Just now, that entity that had burrowed into my body, silent for so long, had spoken, truly startling me.

‘Hmph, what’s there to be so surprised about?’ A mocking laugh echoed from the depths of my mind.

I didn’t know how to communicate with her, so I remained silent, simply standing there.

“Let’s go, time to head back.” God’s Agent waved to me, signaling for me to come over.

I hummed in response and jogged to God’s Agent’s side. Another black crystal appeared in her palm. Crushing it, we returned to our previous location.

‘I said, don’t you even understand telepathy?’ The voice in my mind was filled with disbelief.

Telepathy? I pondered for a moment, then pulled out my grimoire, flipping through it until I finally found the usage instructions in the basic section.

‘Is this it? Can you hear me?’ I tried to respond to the voice in my mind.

‘Yes. You truly are useless.’

‘Uh… actually…’

‘No need to explain. A waste is a waste. But this time, I want you to do me a favor.’
