Ping Chengcheng gave a few perfunctory replies to her little admirer, then looked toward Ye Yin.
What had he just said?
“What did you say just now? Sorry, I wasn’t paying attention,” Ping Chengcheng said with an apologetic smile, but in Ye Yin’s eyes, it was pure mockery and contempt.
He sneered inwardly. “Ah, I said, General Commander, do you have any suggestions?”
After hearing Ye Yin’s question, Ping Chengcheng glanced around, then, under his astonished gaze, agilely flipped herself onto the roof of the Kamaz.
‘Wait, she isn’t wearing an exoskeleton, is she!? How did she just jump onto a three-meter-high roof!?’
The scene captivated many onlookers; nearby combat personnel all stared with their mouths agape in surprise.
“What are you looking at? What’s so surprising?”
“Did you think that as the general commander, my exoskeleton wouldn’t be a bit more advanced?”
“My exoskeleton is a lighter model, worn snugly under my clothes.”
What!?
Was she serious?
“Could you take off your clothes and show me?” Ye Yin swallowed, uttering a remarkably rude request without realizing it.
“Are you a pervert?” the girl asked, her face expressionless. Then, ignoring whatever Ye Yin was thinking, she began to survey the entire convoy.
Ye Yin clenched his fists, his teeth grinding audibly. ‘Damn it…’
‘If he were the general commander of this mission, that mysterious exoskeleton Ping Chengcheng was wearing would be his!’
He couldn’t accept this!
“Hey! Who arranged this convoy?”
Ping Chengcheng asked, her delicate voice sounding quite pleasant despite her dissatisfaction.
“Was it a pig? All military trucks?”
‘Did they think we were going on a field trip by bus? That a higher passenger capacity was better?’
Ye Yin had been about to say that he had arranged it, but after hearing Ping Chengcheng’s words, a surge of anger rose within him.
‘If you have a problem, just say it! What do you mean by calling me a pig!?’
‘Hmph, in that case…’
“Oh, the convoy? It was personally arranged by the base’s General Commander.”
‘Lu Linyuan?’
Ping Chengcheng paused for a moment.
“Heh, I didn’t realize Lu Linyuan was a pig too.”
Ping Chengcheng curled her lip in disdain.
What!?
This time, Ye Yin was truly shocked. Even Song Ning, whose arm was being held by the girl, trembled slightly. Nearby personnel who were passing by began to wonder if they had just heard things.
‘Huh? Can you just say the General Commander’s name like that?’
‘And she even called him a pig!’
‘Isn’t this girl afraid of being punished!?’
After the initial shock, Ye Yin was secretly overjoyed. ‘Hmph, I have to spread this news far and wide! The operation’s general commander actually called the base’s general commander a pig!’
He wanted to see Ping Chengcheng severely disciplined!
At that moment, Ping Chengcheng was shaking her head and sighing. She leaped gracefully from the truck’s roof, landing on the ground without making a single sound.
“The armored vehicles in the base, you know of them? Bring a few over, and mount a heavy machine gun on each one.”
“The situation in A City is unclear right now. It’s highly likely we’ll encounter quite a few Special Infected during this operation.”
“Ramming them with heavy trucks only works on common zombies. It’ll be useless once we run into powerful Special Infected.”
Ye Yin frowned. “Can Special Infected really be that strong?”
It was no wonder he was unaware of their true strength; in S City, the only one he had ever seen while it was alive was the Butcher.
“Of course. And there are creatures much stronger than Special Infected, which I call Variants.”
“They should be recorded in the base’s new handbook, right?”
Ye Yin grunted in affirmation. Although he was reluctant to submit to the girl, he had to admit that Ping Chengcheng’s knowledge of the post-apocalyptic world was truly unheard of. It was hard to imagine what she had been through in these three months to know so much.
Ye Yin looked at the small girl, finding it all somewhat incredible. She was truly a miracle.
“Also, prepare several sets of thermal imaging and night vision equipment.”
Although Ye Yin had his reservations about Ping Chengcheng serving as commander, he was unambiguous when it came to carrying out orders. He quickly relayed her commands, and before long, eight armored vehicles were added to the convoy—two at the front, two at the rear, and four in the middle, designated as a free-roaming unit that could be deployed as needed.
“We need to establish supply camps along our route for this operation, so prepare more firearms and ammunition—the more, the better. And we’ll need at least a month’s worth of food.”
Ye Yin, when it came to his work, was meticulous. He quickly made all the arrangements.
At three in the afternoon, everything was prepared and ready to go. All the members participating in the operation stood in neat formations before the city wall.
The girl stood atop the Kamaz not far away, her cute little head held high as she looked down upon them.
Her gaze shifted to the several team leaders, all of whom were wearing exoskeleton armor.
“Introduce yourselves. I don’t know any of you yet.”
A young woman was the first to step forward, bowing to Ping Chengcheng.
Ping Chengcheng narrowed her eyes, feeling the figure was somewhat familiar.
‘Wasn’t this one of the two girls who escorted Song Ning home that night?’
“Hello, Commander. I am Ling Feng, leader of the Collection Team.”
‘Ling Feng? A nice enough name.’
The girl’s expression remained neutral as she gave a slight nod. She glanced secretly at Song Ning, only to find that Song Ning was actually looking at the girl named Ling Feng.
‘Damn it! This Ling Feng is definitely trying to seduce my sister! Damn her! Otherwise, why would my sister be looking at her!?’
‘And where did the other girl go? Hmph, never mind. I have to find a chance to teach them a lesson!’
‘And as for my sister… what new form of punishment should I devise? Something that won’t hurt Song Ning, but won’t lack for disciplinary effect… what should I do?’
A barely perceptible, ferocious glint flashed in the girl’s eyes.
Ping Chengcheng familiarized herself with the leaders of the various teams and also got to know the other two squads of the Emergency Strike Team.
Unlike Ping Chengcheng’s squad, the other two were much larger, with a total of thirty members between them.
Among them were four members wearing exoskeletons.
Excluding Ping Chengcheng’s squad and the handful of team leaders, the remaining exoskeletons were distributed among the members of the Patrol Team and the Collection Team.
Ping Chengcheng pulled them out and formed them into a separate, special operations squad.
“Come on. Let’s test your strength.”
The girl stood in an open area and beckoned with her hand. “Who’s first?”
Although they had all heard that the girl was wearing some kind of advanced, form-fitting exoskeleton under her clothes, Ping Chengcheng still looked like, well, a girl!
How good could her skills possibly be?
They were supposed to fight a girl? They couldn’t do it! Besides, she was so cute, and she was their commander! What if they hurt her?
Ping Chengcheng, however, let out a sneer. “What’s wrong? Are you scared?”
“Afraid you’ll lose face if you can’t beat me?”
The girl naturally knew what they were really thinking, but she had to resort to taunts. She needed to know the strength of this group to deploy them effectively later.
As expected, a burly man immediately stepped forward. He stood tall, neither servile nor overbearing, and said, “Commander, with all due respect, I didn’t want to do this for fear of injuring you, but it is you who are in the wrong for mocking us!”
“Ha? You think you’re the main character of a novel?”
“Less nonsense. Let’s go!” The girl stood her ground, unmoving.
The next moment, the man roared, “Remember my name, it’s Ye Fan!”
He charged toward the girl!
In the next instant!
Thwack!
The girl vanished, becoming a black blur. Moving at high speed, she struck out with her palm, intentionally holding back her power as she hit the man in the waist!
In that moment, the man was launched into the air, tracing a graceful arc.
The entire crowd erupted in an uproar!
Ye Yin, watching from the side, found his eyes widening for what felt like the dozenth time that day.
“Your speed is slow, your power is insufficient, you’re full of openings, and your attacks have no form.”
“Keep it up.”
Ping Chengcheng dusted off her palms, her tone flat as her gaze once again swept over the crowd.
“The rest of you can come at me together.”
