Chapter 95: No I’m a Netkama.

[【Bloody Night】Long-Awaited Solo Rank! #Kainozumi #StarsFlow #BloodyNight #BN]

When players discover that the person they’re playing with is a woman, they often have a variety of reactions.

Although I’ve never experienced this myself, I’ve heard that when women meet other women, they may bond over a sense of shared identity, but there’s also a chance of conflict.

So what happens when a man meets a woman while playing?

From my experience, there are typically three types of reactions.

First: Those who show no interest and focus solely on the game.

This was the type I belonged to in my past life. Gender didn’t matter much to me, and I simply did my part in the

game. These are the people who care more about achieving the goal of the game than interacting with the players.

Second: Those who hold biased assumptions about women’s gaming skills.

These are the players who believe women can’t play games as well as men and blame any in-game problems entirely on the female player.

Finally, the third type: The men who are simply obsessed with women.

These are the guys who go out of their way to try to befriend a female player, whether for the game or for something

else entirely. They blur the lines between gaming and dating.

Of course, I know that, on average, there are far more male players than female players, so it’s no surprise that

female players attract attention. In my past life, even though I didn’t say anything, I did think it was somewhat

fascinating when I encountered a female player.

But still, letting something as trivial as gender interfere with the game is clearly crossing a line.

Moreover, while I’m living as a woman now, I’m mentally more like a man, and I play the game far better than most men.

[… Are you a woman?]

Naturally, hearing this made me want to dodge the question.

From my past experiences, the ones who asked this kind of question typically fell into the second or third categories.

In fact, one of the reasons I stopped playing Bloody Night before was because, as a female player, I would attract

attention in about 3 out of every 5 matches. It was all about the voice chat in a FPS game, and the focus was always

on me, simply because I was a woman.

But I didn’t want to dodge this time.

In Bloody Night, if you dodge, you have to wait for 10 minutes. Given how long matchmaking takes due to my high

MMR, I didn’t want to waste that time.

If I stayed silent, they might intentionally throw the game, so it was better to respond confidently.

I cleared my throat slightly and spoke in a voice that was just a bit lower than usual.

“No, I’m not a woman. I’m a netkama (online impersonator), so I’m using a voice changer.”

[Heh…! Oh, I see.]

  • This guy is casually lying, ᄏᄏ
  • There’s no netkama who admits they’re a netkama, ᄏᄏ

As expected, just like the comments from Izutomo, there’s no netkama who openly admits to being one.

So in a sense, this was practically me revealing I’m a woman.

But I said it deliberately.

Yes, I’m a woman, but I was throwing in a sarcastic comment to make sure they didn’t start assuming anything else.

[Sorry if I made you uncomfortable. I’ll be relying on you.]

“Yeah…”

Fortunately, it seemed like the other player quickly understood the meaning behind my words.

Then, as the selection time ended and the sound of a fighter jet roared, the game began.

Our characters were, as chosen earlier, Lina and Luke.

The Lina and Luke combo had been a popular core strategy since the early days of Bloody Night.

Lina, with the highest mobility in the game, pairs perfectly with Luke’s Night Arc, which can move and provide high-

level shields to protect her when she’s in danger.

[Shall we head to Downtown?]

“…Y-yeah, let’s do that.”

When Downtown was mentioned, bad memories from my past collaboration with Kurokami-senpai surfaced.

From the moment the match started, countless snipers followed us, and despite knowing that, Kurokami-senpai

didn’t avoid the fight, which led to us recording the lowest ranks for over five matches.

But it’s okay.

Even though this is just a placement match, seeing that I’ve been matched with a Diamond rank player means my

MMR hasn’t dropped significantly.

There probably won’t be many snipers this time, and I doubt this person will start a chaotic fight right from the

beginning.

Actually, Downtown is a less popular area because the items are scattered all over the place, making it difficult to

farm. However, for someone like Lina, who has great mobility, it’s actually one of the best spots.

Other characters starting in Downtown would have a significant disadvantage compared to Lina, with the gap easily

being double.

[We’re on the same team.]

“Thank goodness…”

I sighed in relief when I realized that the only other team in Downtown was on our side.

  • Last time when I collabed with the lady, at least five teams followed us.
  • Once you reach Diamond rank, there are fewer players who can follow you.

[I’ll head in the E direction.]

“Then… I’ll go towards the W direction…”

Since Downtown is a large map, it’s more efficient for us to spread out and farm separately.

In the early stages, even if we encounter an enemy and have a brief skirmish, it’s rare for it to turn into an all-out

fight to the death.

Fortunately, it didn’t seem like the other team in Downtown was here for sniping either.

“…All I found was a healing kit.”

We were a tank and damage dealer combo, so having a lot of healing kits was a good thing. But still, the fact that we

hadn’t found any necessary equipment was concerning.

At least we had found some weapons, but Lina still couldn’t find any light armor.

[Shall we gather soon? Our position is outside the field, so we should probably move.]

“Of course…”

In the end, we couldn’t find any light armor.

It would have been too much to search the entire remaining area of Downtown.

Like other battle royale games, Bloody Night gradually shrinks the field over time, and players outside the field take

continuous damage.

When that happens, HP drops, and if you re-enter the field, you’ll be attacked by enemies who have already taken

positions, leading to a one-sided defeat.

As he said, it was time to start moving.

“U-um, I still haven’t found any light armor…”

I decided to inform him of my situation.

[Ah, it’s okay. I’ll protect you.]

“…Huh?”

  • Ah
  • This guy is the real deal ᄏᄏ
  • Mei-chan is too flustered to say anything ᄏᄏ

The chat was full of comments, probably because my reaction to his words was hilarious.

“No, seriously… that’s so gross…”

How can he say something like that so casually?

I couldn’t wrap my head around it.

[Then let’s head to City. If we move now, we should still be able to secure a position.]

What should I say?

After hearing that earlier comment, now even ordinary words started feeling uncomfortable.

I felt like I wanted to quit the game right then and there.

“OO….”

  • A voice full of disdain, well, it was delicious.

Aside from the grossness of it all, his skills were pretty impressive.

Of course, as someone who used to be in Night Raid’s ranks, I could still spot some flaws, but at the Diamond rank, he was among the best.

Thanks to that, even without light armor, I was able to survive the first fight and snatch the light armor from the

enemy I defeated.

And now, there was only one team left.

The opponents were Kurokami-senpai’s main characters: the tank, Arsene, and the supporter, Gale.

If we were to look at the position matchups alone, we were at a disadvantage.

But the gap was small enough to turn things around.

Because of his passive, Arsene had high shields and defenses, which made him vulnerable to Luke, who absorbs enemy shields and defenses.

That meant we didn’t have to stick to the usual strategy of “take out the supporter first” when facing a tank/support combo.

[Shall we start moving in?]

While we were in a standoff, we used healing kits to restore both our shields and health.

I’m sure the enemy did the same.

So now, it was a matter of facing each other head-on.

[I’ll make sure you win.]

“Ugh….”

Should I just lose?

I seriously thought about it, but I couldn’t just give up now after getting this far.

[Then let’s go for a full burst!]

I signaled the start of the battle by using Lina’s Night Arc, Full Burst.

In response, Luke immediately used his E skill, Toxic Smoke, to support me.

It was a skill that not only obscured the enemy’s vision but also dealt continuous damage to any enemies within its range.

Lina, being the most mobile character in Bloody Night, was a perfect fit for close combat—an oddity in FPS games.

But that was exactly why she worked so well with Luke, who could quickly move to her side and obscure the enemy’s

vision to create confusion.

[Good luck.]

“Ah, yes….”

[We won.]

As expected, this guy, though annoying, was really skilled.

At the end, Gale’s Night Arc almost put me in danger, but Luke immediately used his Night Arc to save me.

Truthfully, we probably wouldn’t have lost even if that hadn’t happened, but it was so much more convenient having

a team that knew exactly how to move in any situation.

[I’m glad I could give victory to my little bird.]

Of course, that didn’t mean I wanted to play with him again.

No way.

I immediately skipped the victory screen and tried to return to the solo rank lobby.

[Oh, and Mei-chan, I’ve been enjoying your stream, so keep up the great work!]

That voice…

“It was Izutomo, huh?”
ᄏᄏᄏᄏᄏᄏ

  • What a huge plot twist.
  • Was this how Mei-chan was made to feel disgusted…?

After the game with the disgusting Izutomo ended, I drank some water and queued for another match.

  • Mei-chan, did you think we were disgusting all along?
  • I’m hurt.
  • I’m so sad.

After it was revealed that the guy was Izutomo, the chat was filled with responses like that, but I didn’t bother

replying.

It was obvious he wanted me to react.

“Hmmm, it’s been a while, so should I try playing a different character…?”

As I waited while chatting, the familiar sound of a match starting echoed through the game.

And this time, my teammate was…

[Nice to meet you, Izumi….]

For some reason, it was Aki-chan.
