Before the words had even fully faded, Jiang Xun fired without a single shred of hesitation.
Although he hadn’t known Su Mian for very long and didn’t fully grasp her personality, at this moment, he chose to trust her implicitly.
In that exact second, the face of the little girl behind the woman stiffened. Her eyes suddenly rolled back, leaving nothing but the whites!
She decisively grabbed the woman in front of her—who still had no idea what was happening—to use as a human shield. Simultaneously, she let out an incredibly cold, rasping voice: “We are clearly of the same kind. Why are you standing on their side?”
Her command of human language was quite good; one could even say her pronunciation was perfectly clear.
Unfortunately, Su Mian ignored her completely. While Jiang Xun’s muzzle was aimed at the target, he had clearly accounted for the possibility of the woman being used as a shield. At the last millisecond, he shifted his aim, letting the bullet whistle past her.
His shot didn’t hit, but just as the little girl behind the woman tried to make another move, an even more exaggerated roar thundered from the other side.
The girl’s expression changed. Her figure instantly blurred as she retreated, but half of her arm was still blown to pieces by the shot!
She looked at Zhi Yuan, who was closing in, and Zhen Zhu, whose body was erupting with snowy white flames on the other side. Gritting her teeth, the little girl’s body suddenly shuddered and slumped limply to the ground.
The girl, whose eyes had returned to normal, was stunned for half a beat. Then, intense pain surged through her nerves, causing her to immediately clutch her severed arm and let out a piteous, agonizing scream.
This scene gave the surrounding group pause.
Jiang Xun raised an eyebrow.
“A Spirit-state demon?”
As mentioned before, the Administration categorized demons into three simple types: Material-state, Energy-state, and Spirit-state.
This demon possessed the little girl without a physical body. It was invisible to the naked eye but exceptionally dangerous.
Just like with this little girl, the demon had curled up inside her body without making a sound. Had it not been for Su Mian’s warning, the members of the Administration might truly have fallen into a trap.
Even now, having discovered its existence, dealing with it was extremely troublesome. The demon was formless and intangible; you didn’t know where it was hiding, nor did you know who it would attack next!
Furthermore, mental attacks were far harder to defend against than physical ones. Often, one only realized they had been targeted after the blow had already landed.
Against such an enemy at any other time, Jiang Xun and his team would have had a real headache. It wasn’t that they couldn’t handle it, but formless enemies were usually the biggest time-wasters—and time was exactly what they lacked most right now.
But that was then, and this was now.
In the past, they had to find their own solutions.
But now…
“A demon without a physical body? Can this be eaten?”
Muttering to herself, Su Mian had appeared behind the girl at some point and picked her up by the collar. Watching the child struggle frantically and howl in pain in her hands, Su Mian’s face was full of curiosity.
The formless demon’s disguise was perfect in the eyes of others, but unfortunately, the girl could directly observe its aura of desire. Using her own demonic power, she could clearly see the shadowy figure still tightly shrunk inside the child!
It was obvious that this fellow hadn’t left at all.
However, holding the little girl, Su Mian was briefly unsure of where to start biting… after all, every demon she had encountered before had a physical body. This was the first time she had faced something formless and intangible.
How to eat it was the problem.
The formless demon wouldn’t come out of the girl’s body; she couldn’t exactly swallow the child whole along with it, could she?
While Su Mian was hesitating and drawing her short blade in a quiet moment, the demon actually made the first move.
The girl was holding the child without letting go, her crimson eyes full of predatory hunger, which the demon seemed to have misunderstood.
And so…
“Aieeeee——!”
The demon immediately launched a counterattack. The little girl’s eyes, which had just recovered, rolled back again. Then, a piercing, exaggerated shriek erupted from her throat!
Crack! Crack!
The terrifying sound waves caused the nearby glass to fracture. The fashionable woman standing closest was the first to suffer, falling unconscious instantly. The Administration members trying to close in felt as though they had been struck in the head with a sledgehammer, their vision going black.
However, at that moment, Old He, who had just stepped out of the car, raised his hand. An invisible force radiated from him, quickly mitigating the impact of the demonic sonic wave on everyone present.
The key to a Spirit demon’s shriek wasn’t actually the sound, but the mental force impacting alongside it. Old He used his own ability to resist for the group, greatly reducing the effect.
Meanwhile, on the other side, the demon’s shriek lasted only a short second. This was merely the prelude to its attack, and its target was solely the closest person: Su Mian.
The intense mental shock caught the girl, who had never encountered such a demon, slightly off guard. Though she reacted quickly due to her high stats, the Spirit demon managed to catch a sliver of opportunity.
The little girl’s eye sockets, which were previously just whites, turned pitch black in an instant. She locked eyes with Su Mian’s gaze.
In the next second, a hint of black faintly stained the girl’s crimson eyes.
It wants to occupy my body?
The moment her mind was impacted, Su Mian reacted. Though she didn’t know all of this demon’s tricks, she immediately realized what it was trying to do.
This fellow first used the mental shock to rattle her consciousness, then tried to take the chance to tear through her mental defenses, wanting to invade her body and seize her existence!
It was a good plan, but unfortunately, it wasn’t realistic. Su Mian could clearly feel that her mental strength far surpassed that of her opponent.
So.
“I’ll give you a chance.”
Wearing a thoughtful expression, the girl simply gave up resisting.
Thus, the demon, who a second ago felt like it was crashing against a mountain, suddenly felt the surrounding pressure vanish. It immediately invaded the target’s mental world!
It didn’t know Su Mian was doing it on purpose; it thought she had finally crumbled. It instantly let out an excited, cruel voice: “Haha! Your body is mine!”
The demon immediately drove its power, attempting to pollute and devour this ocean of the soul.
Then…
Then there was no “then.”
The formless demon that invaded Su Mian’s mental world didn’t even know what happened. It felt like a drop of water merging into a vast ocean. It wanted to whip up a storm, only to find its power couldn’t even cause a ripple here.
It struggled with all its might, using every desperate means, only managing to see a tiny corner of this place before its consciousness completely dissolved. But even as a demon, it could find no words to describe what it had seen!
It only knew that the moment it saw that thing…
Everything it was melted away instantly.
