Chapter 97: A Sweet but Embarrassing Moment

As I ate cookies and sipped tea, I started wondering if the reason I came here even mattered anymore.

Across from me, Presia smiled brightly, delighted by my compliments, as she continued to push more high-quality cookies toward me.

Meanwhile, Bear and Bunny clung to my legs under the table, as if checking whether I was comfortable.

With all this luxury, I felt like I should be paying Presia rather than the other way around.

“Here, try this one. It’s a new release from that cookie shop you liked so much last time.”

Not only did she remember what I liked, but she also considered my preferences when offering me treats.

I took the cookie and popped it into my mouth.

A rich buttery flavor spread across my tongue.

It was indeed worthy of being a new product from one of my favorite bakeries.

Wait… one of my favorite bakeries?

Which one was it?

Was it the shop in the commercial district?

Or the café right outside the academy?

Maybe it was the famous patisserie near the fountain?

As I pondered which store it came from, I realized something important.

I didn’t have a least favorite bakery.

I had enjoyed every single cookie that had come into my hands.

So when Presia said it was from my favorite shop, it could have been any of them—because I loved them all.

“There’s plenty, so eat as much as you like. And make sure to take some with you when you leave.”

“I still haven’t finished the ones you gave me last time. I’m really fine, so you should eat some too, Presia.”

She had spent all this time handing me cookies, but she hadn’t eaten a single one herself.

Feeling grateful—and a little guilty—I decided to speak my mind.

“Come here. Ah, open your mouth.”

“…?”

“You haven’t had any while I was eating, have you? You kept passing them to me.”

I picked up one of the cookies she had just handed me and held it out to her.

“Here, say ‘ahh’.”

“A-Ahh…”

Following my cue, Presia hesitantly opened her mouth.

Maybe because she felt embarrassed, she tightly shut her eyes as if she were being treated like a child.

Normally, Celian, Yuri, and even Anne, when she was watching from the side, would try to feed me things.

So I hadn’t thought much about it when I offered.

But now, seeing Presia sitting there with her eyes shut, mouth slightly open like a little bird waiting to be fed, I suddenly felt just as flustered.

If it had been a larger cookie, I could have simply placed it in her mouth, but since it was bite-sized, I had to be more precise.

Carefully, I placed the cookie onto her slightly visible pink tongue.

However, before I could withdraw my fingers, Presia suddenly closed her mouth.

My fingers were still inside.

I could feel the soft sensation of her tongue brushing against them as she enjoyed the cookie.

“P-Presia…?”

“…Mmh.”

Perhaps because the cookie was particularly delicious, Presia, who was still at an age where she loved sweet things, was entirely focused on savoring it.

Even though I called out to her, she kept her eyes closed, swirling the cookie around in her mouth.

Since her eyes were shut, she probably hadn’t even realized what she was doing.

And to make matters worse, my fingers were lightly caught between her sharp little canine teeth, making it difficult to pull away.

Of course, my trained body wouldn’t feel pain from something like this.

But if I forcefully yanked my fingers out, I might not hurt myself—but Presia’s delicate teeth could be damaged.

So I was completely stuck.

Between the slight pressure of her teeth and the warmth of her tongue brushing against my fingers, I felt increasingly embarrassed.

If Anne had been the one biting down, she would have quickly finished the cookie, allowing me a chance to pull my fingers free.

But Presia seemed to be the type who slowly melted her food like candy.

I couldn’t exactly criticize her for having her own way of eating, but it was making this situation all the more awkward.

Unlike Anne, who could eat multiple cookies in a minute, Presia took several minutes just to finish one.

So for what felt like an eternity—though it was only a few minutes—I sat there, fingers trapped in Presia’s mouth, while she slowly savored the cookie.

And just when I thought it was finally over—

As my fingers slipped out of her mouth, Presia’s tongue instinctively followed, as if reluctant to let go.

A thin string of saliva stretched between us before breaking.

…Okay.

Think pure thoughts. Think pure thoughts.

By the time I finally managed to get my brain working again, I remembered why I had come to see Presia in the first place.

Presia.

“…Huh?”

Like someone experiencing a sugar high, Presia looked dazed, her eyes slightly out of focus.

Well, considering how delicious those cookies were, I couldn’t blame her.

I silently thanked Presia again for so generously sharing her cookies with me.

Presia!

That aside, I needed to snap her out of her cookie-induced trance.

I grabbed her arm and gently shook her.

…It was definitely not an excuse to wipe my fingers on her sleeve.

Not that it would even clean them properly.

“Uh, huh?”

Fortunately, Presia quickly came back to her senses.

…Too bad, I had only used one finger so far—ahem!

That wasn’t my real thought.

Just a stray impulse because my fingers were wet.

“Now that I think about it, I actually have a favor to ask.”

Pushing aside unnecessary thoughts, I refocused on my original reason for coming here.

“A favor?”

“Yes. I know I already receive a lot of help from you, so I feel bad for asking. But you were the only person I could think of.”

Among the few people I could trust, Presia was one of the most capable.

“I’m the only one who can help?”

“Yes. You’re the only one who came to mind.”

“I’m the only one…?”

“Yes. I know it’s selfish of me, but could I ask for your help?”

I wasn’t worried that she would get angry—Presia was far too generous for that.

But just in case, I carefully watched her reaction.

Rather than looking annoyed, her expression brightened, just like when she offered me cookies.

“Of course. Ask me anything, Elysia. If it’s for you, I’ll do whatever I can.”

I had expected that response from her expression, but hearing it directly reassured me.

Letting out a quiet sigh of relief, I finally explained the reason for my visit.

“Do you know anything about contract magic?”

“Contract magic…? Do you mean the one I used for Kitty last time?”

That was true.

The contract she had formed with Kitty had also been Presia’s doing.

She really had done a lot for me.

Feeling grateful again, I picked up another cookie and continued.

“Mm… It’s a bit different from that.”

I pulled a folded piece of paper from my pocket and placed it in front of her.

On the paper was a symbol.

A mark I had seen for over a decade—one I knew all too well.

The Servitude Engraving.

To avoid exposing my true identity, I had drawn the old version—the circular design that had once been on my chest when I was still in my original body.

Not the heart-shaped one now imprinted on my lower abdomen.

“Someone I know… went through a terrible experience and ended up with this magic. I heard it’s mainly used on slaves, but I was wondering if you knew a way to remove it.”

There was a reason I had come to Presia.

This engraving was vicious—my own secret research had turned up no way to remove it.

I wouldn’t have risked asking her if there were any other leads.

But if Presia didn’t know, who else would?

If even Presia, a mage so talented that the Emperor himself recognized her, was unaware of a solution—then maybe there truly was none.

“Hmm…? I usually work with a different type of magic, so I’m not too familiar with this.”

Her words made my heart sink.

“So you don’t know how to remove it…?”

“But if I investigate, I might find a way! And if nothing exists—I’ll just create a new spell to remove it.”

I tried not to show it, but my disappointment must have been obvious.

Presia, noticing my expression, quickly tried to reassure me.

Who was the older one here again?

“…I really do nothing but take from you, don’t I? But please don’t push yourself too hard. If this ends up hurting you, then it defeats the purpose.”

“Don’t worry. I won’t do anything reckless. But for you, Elysia, this is nothing.”

She picked up the paper and handed it to Bunny, who had been sitting at her feet.

“So, are we done here?”

“Mm… I guess so?”

“Good. Then I’ll handle the magic issue. But in return…”

It seemed Presia had a request of her own.

She rarely asked for anything, so she hesitated, fidgeting awkwardly.

“What is it…?”

“Whatever you ask, I’ll do it. Just tell me. After everything you’ve done for me, how could I say no?”

“Really…?”

“Yes. I promise.”

“Then… Ah, ahhh…!”

Despite how serious she had looked, her request turned out to be incredibly simple.

She mimicked the gesture from earlier—closing her eyes and opening her mouth like a baby bird.

Seeing her like that made me smile.

In the end, I continued the cycle of feeding her one cookie, then myself, until we finished the plate.

By the time we were done, my fingers had been covered in her saliva several times.

…But let’s just pretend that didn’t happen.
