Su Mian had deliberately allowed the demon into her body to test her own condition. After all, the Succubus had already cast doubt on her very existence.
However, after the demon burrowed inside, it was like a stone sinking into the sea; it didn’t stir up a single ripple.
Upon a careful inspection, her expression turned a bit strange. She felt her power had actually been strengthened.
There was no doubt—that demon had just been “eaten” by her!
“That was too fast. You crawled in and just vanished? You could have at least made a little noise.”
Su Mian was somewhat speechless, but she shook her head and didn’t dwell on it. It had only been a whim-driven experiment. If there were results, great; if not, it was no big deal. She would eventually uncover the secrets of her own body later.
With this mindset, Su Mian quickly pushed her own condition to the back of her mind and began to study the difference between this Spirit-state demon and others. She was surprised to find that the energy provided this time was only slightly less than that of the previous mid-rank demon!
Was this thing actually that strong?
If it hadn’t crawled into Su Mian’s body but had targeted the others instead—even with Jiang Xun there—it likely would have caused significant trouble for the team.
“Unlucky fellow, you chose the wrong target.”
Su Mian didn’t know why the demon had marked her as its primary target, but she didn’t care. After checking her status and once again soothing her somewhat rioting Gluttony desire, she looked up at Jiang Xun in the distance.
“It is handled.”
Having said that, she placed the unconscious little girl on the ground. Zhen Zhu, who possessed some medical ability, immediately stepped forward to stop the bleeding. However, the girl had first been possessed, then had her arm mangled, and finally suffered mental damage; her situation was not optimistic.
The same went for the woman. Being a regular human standing too close, she had been severely impacted by the demon’s shriek. Even after being woken up with Old He’s help, she remained listless and weak.
“Find a relatively safe place to settle them for now.”
Looking at the two, Jiang Xun made a quick decision after a moment of thought.
Taking them along was out of the question. Setting aside the Truth Society they had to face, the deeper they went, the more distorted the environment became—it wasn’t something these ordinary people could endure.
Furthermore, they couldn’t abandon their mission for two people; that would be completely putting the cart before the horse.
The correct approach was to find a safer spot to place them, leave a tracker and a communicator, and wait for the Administration’s rescue teams to pick them up later.
While the men were busy, Su Mian returned to the side of the car, feeling refreshed. The power of that formless demon had been completely digested.
Spirit-state demons didn’t provide much of a physical boost. Instead, she felt that her various Succubus abilities had become even more effortless to use.
Just then, Officer Jiang approached. The girl’s eyes lit up, and in the next second, a pink light flickered within them.
The young man was completely unaware. Upon reaching her, he naturally patted her head and said with a gentle expression, “I have troubled you again. Once this is settled, I…”
As he spoke, Jiang Xun clearly realized something was wrong.
He froze there, first looking at his hand, then at Su Mian who was looking up at him, and finally fell into silence.
‘Why did I naturally start patting this demon’s head?’
The atmosphere became a bit subtle. In contrast, Su Mian felt that the effect of her “Friendly Halo” was a bit poor—it only lasted three seconds before failing!
By the time she reacted, the tall man in front of her had already withdrawn his hand. He spoke with a normal expression, as if nothing had happened: “I have troubled you again. After this is resolved, you can make any request of us. As long as it is relatively reasonable, I believe the Administration will not refuse you!”
“Oh.”
Su Mian’s interest, however, was flagging. She was still studying her own Succubus abilities. Compared to Gluttony, the seemingly inconspicuous Succubus traits were actually the more dangerous ones.
Just as she was thinking about whether to continue experimenting on Officer Jiang, the man had clearly wised up. Taking advantage of the fact that no one else was paying attention, he quickly returned to the team.
“Time is tight, let us keep moving.”
Settle the two civilians didn’t waste much time. As for whether they would be attacked by other demons after the Administration left… one could only say it was possible, but the probability wasn’t very high.
The Influence Realm covered a wide area, but it was impossible for demons to be everywhere. In fact, for the vast majority of ordinary people who fell into this place, the greatest danger wasn’t demons, but the environment itself.
The environment, which was gradually falling toward the abyss, would cause extreme erosion to an ordinary person’s body, making them die quickly or even mutate!
So, before leaving, Zhen Zhu specifically left a bottle of diluted potion. It couldn’t be used to fight demons, but it should be enough to sustain them until the rescue personnel arrived.
This was all they could do for now. Once arranged, the group did not hesitate, quickly turning the car toward the core of this area.
The closer they got to the crimson pillar of light, the more obvious the distortion of the environment became. At times, it was hard to tell which world they were even in.
The streets and most buildings were unrecognizable. They didn’t look like human dwellings, but more like crouching monsters, baring fangs and claws, abnormally twisted.
The surrounding light flickered, and the colors were murky, giving off an instinctive sense of suffocation and oppression.
Whether it was because the space near the core was more chaotic or simply because creatures were drawn to the power radiating here, the amount of trouble along the way increased significantly.
The distortion of the environment meant the roads were no longer roads, so they eventually had to abandon the vehicle and proceed on foot. Shortly after, they fell into a trap set by several demons.
These were several low-rank demons that blended almost perfectly into the environment. Because they were hidden so well, they didn’t leak even a hint of aura before attacking, nearly managing to fool even Su Mian.
However, while her reaction was a half-beat slow, the Administration members were no novices. Jiang Xun raised his hand and threw a ball of fire, charring the oncoming demon, while Zhi Yuan fired several consecutive shots, blowing the others into fragments.
They had been bullied quite badly by an elite demon at Yu Fu’s banquet before, but these were just mere low-ranks. These things clearly weren’t enough to cause them much trouble.
Su Mian didn’t turn up her nose at them either, driving her crimson energy to melt down all the still-active demonic remains.
The journey continued, and the trouble was only beginning. After clearing the low-rank demons, the group soon encountered a “roadblock.”
It was a Hate Demon like the one they first met, but much larger—over ten meters. Its massive body was even directly fused with the surrounding buildings.
The monster, appearing as if piled together from countless beasts, was shedding large chunks of organs and flesh. In front of it was the remains of another demon, which was unrecognizable, reduced to a pool of churning pus.
By the time Su Mian and the others arrived, this Hate Demon—whose aura was far stronger than the previous one—was just about to finish its meal. Discovering this fresh food, it did not hesitate.
“Roar——!”
Countless beast faces on the demon’s body let out deafening roars. It moved its body, leveling the surrounding buildings, and surged forward like a flood carrying debris!
The scene was intimidating, but Su Mian stepped out in front of the others, a smile she couldn’t suppress spreading across her face.
“A feast!”
She didn’t even realize how excited her voice sounded. Even more excited than her was the surrounding crimson aura.
The blinding blood-red light outlined a shadow similar to Su Mian, laughing hoarsely and baring shark-like teeth. It then charged at the Hate Demon in a manner even more crazed than the monster itself!
The Hate Demon’s intelligence was not high, but just as the smaller one had sensed danger at the end, this large Hate Demon realized something was wrong at the last second.
They both faced the same problem—they couldn’t stop!
So, the massive demon could only choose to collide, and in the next second, it was cut and mangled by that crazed crimson light.
The crimson storm destroyed the Hate Demon’s body with simple, brutal force. What terrified it even more was that every shredded piece merged into the crimson to become nourishment for the other side. One waned as the other waxed; in just four or five seconds, this enormous monster was completely swallowed by the blood-red light.
Compared to the smaller version, it at least managed to struggle, though it was meaningless.
Once the Hate Demon was eaten down to nothing, the even denser crimson returned and merged back into Su Mian’s body. It made her feel warm all over, and she narrowed her eyes in comfort.
But this feeling only lasted a short while.
“Not enough, not nearly enough! More, I need more…”
Muttering to herself—it was unclear if she was speaking to herself or the others—Su Mian could feel that she was in a state of extreme excitement. Her entire body felt as if it had been set on fire.
It made her feel like she wasn’t quite herself, but at this moment, she didn’t resist the feeling; in fact, she quite enjoyed it.
She was merely satisfying a basic desire, a fundamental craving.
Everything else was built upon survival, and feeding was one of the most fundamental needs.
So, there was no need to suppress it, no need to resist. Just follow her own heart.
